Picturesque Vilnius is a highly underrated European city, fascinating and filled with distinctly different architecture and styles. Trakai Island is home to a fairytale castle straight out of a Disney film, while the 16th-century Gate of Dawn is a religious site containing a beautiful shrine and the Three Crosses monument offers fabulous views across the city’s sea of red-tiled roofs. Neris Regional Park is on hand not far from your hotel, if you’re more into adventure than architecture, and the food here should not be ignored either - Lithuanian cuisine is heartwarming and delicious featuring swathes of meat-filled pastries and dumplings.
