Explore Oman’s opulent city, desert-scapes and ancient castles before switching off on the idyllic beaches of Zanzibar - includes excursions, a massage, most meals and all travel

Day 1: UK - Oman

Hop on board your flight from the UK, heading to Oman, a historic Middle Eastern gem. On arrival in Muscat you’ll be transferred to your hotel. (Meals: dinner)

Day 2: Muscat

After breakfast, head out into the bustling city for a tour. You’ll drive to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, one of the city’s most remarkable architectural achievements and a spiritual icon on Oman’s landscape. You’ll visit the Bait Baranda Museum, to learn about the history of Oman, then enjoy lunch before visiting Old Muscat, the Al Alam Palace, the fortress-style Bait al Zubair Museum, and Muttrah, a colourful and historic souk. (Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 3: Muscat - Sur - Wahiba Sands

Today, you’ll head out along the coast, making your first stop of the day in the fishing village of Quriyat. Then, you’ll follow the coastline down, past the Sinkhole, a collapsed mountain, through Tiwi and Wadi Shab before stopping in Sur. After a tour, you’ll drive to Wahiba Sands for a 4x4 tour across the incredible dunes, home to bedouin groups for over 7,000 years. You’ll spend a night in the desert, enjoying a fire-side meal and an evening watching the stars. (Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 4: Wahiba Sands - Nizwa

Take in the desert again on a 4x4 journey back to civilisation, then continue driving to Wadi Bani, a lush green valley surrounded by rugged mountains. Admire the views, then stop for lunch on the way to Nizwa, known for its ancient mud houses. On arrival you’ll head to the Al Hamra palm grove, and visit one of the oldest houses in the city. (Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 5: Nizwa - Muscat - Zanzibar

You’ll continue to explore Nizwa this morning, visiting some incredible historical castles, then drive to Bahla to admire the pottery it is famous for. On your way back to Muscat, stop off at Jabreen, an exquisitely-maintained castle. Arrive back in Muscat, then transfer to the airport for your flight to Zanzibar. (Meals: breakfast, lunch)

Days 6 - 11, 13 or 15: Zanzibar

Spend the next six, eight or ten nights at the rather dreamy (as the name would suggest) Dream’s Bay Boutique Hotel, on the northeast coast of Zanzibar. Spend your days lounging by the pool or on the white-sand beach, diving on coral reefs with wild dolphins or exploring the island’s vibrant capital, Stone Town. (Meals: breakfast, dinner)
